R&D Scientist

We are seeking a R&D Scientist responsible for developing and applying chemical solutions in support of new and innovative product/process designs related to the use of fiber film reactors. This role will be part of the R&D division, a creative and motivated team supporting the fundamental research and development of fiber reactor products. This position will be responsible for the development, optimization, validation and troubleshooting of chemical separation methods, providing data-driven solutions to existing and emerging markets. In a fast-paced startup environment, it will be critical to stay current with the newest instrumentation and chemical methodologies to aid in our mission to impart a paradigm shift in separation technology by reducing labor and material costs for two-phase chemical processes while improving value, reliability, and performance.


In this role you can expect to:

  • Design, construct and operate fiber film contactors in furtherance of VFT’s R&D program
  • Explore chemical separation methods for specific applications of commercial interest
  • Synthesis of materials by batch and flow chemistry techniques; reaction optimization facilitated by in-line reaction monitoring and design of experiment (DOE)
  • Purification of materials using fiber reactor technology in addition to analytical/preparative separation procedures to assess process/value proposition
  • Develop formulas, processes, and methods as solution to technical problems
  • Prepare standards and specifications for processes, products, and tests
  • Develop and execute programs for analysis and testing of substances to verify composition of incoming and outgoing samples as needed
  • Apply multi-instrumental analysis to produce data-driven results
  • Work effectively with a highly integrated team on very interesting and challenging materials-based problems
  • Maintain laboratory notebook and report write-ups to update the team and current clients
  • Develop IP encompassing the commercialization of fiber film technology in novel fields
  • Conduct research to develop and improve manufactured products
  • Coordinate trials and evaluations of new products/processes to ensure reliability, quality and performance
  • Provide technical service to all departments as needed
  • Aid in developing and continuously improving all chemical processes
  • Duties will include problem solving and quality improvement, new product introduction, product and process specifications and administration as needed
  • Oversight into activities of all team members for projects on which you are the lead investigator, including manufacturing and engineering personnel

Education & Qualifications

  • PhD in Chemistry or closely related field with one year experience in chemical processing desired.
  • Highly motivated Master’s degree candidate with 3+ years’ experience in chemical processing will be considered.
  • Experience with separation technologies preferred, but not required
  • Hands-on research activities in a laboratory or industrial setting
