VFT has developed a cost-effective fiber reactor purification process to prepare superior quality renewable fuel feedstocks (Figure 2). The Fiber Reactor renewable fuels package incorporates microchanel fiber reactors which effectively remove free fatty acids, metals, phospholipides chlorides and other water soluble groups to the specified targeted levels. As renewable fuel feedstock demand surges, waste fats are surging in value to supplement the market where vegetable oils fall short.
Waste fats of the animal variety contain significantly higher levels of metals, phospholipids, and nitrogen compounds than vegetable oils and must be effectively removed to meet the strict requiments specified by renewable fuel producers. If these impurities were to be introduced during fuel conversion, expensive catalytic beds which convert triglyerceides to alkanes would be irreversibly poisoned. VFT, enables high-throughput, two-phase chemistry to pull deleterious chemicals away from fats.
